We want to make sure that children are getting help when they need it. The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health have put together this tool to help parents know what to do when their child requires urgent care.  

Important information on Type 1 Diabetes

Diabetes UK are urging all parents to be vigilant during this pandemic and act if they are worried. 

Diabetic ketoacidosis-DKA is life threatening but, in most cases, preventable. Acting quickly can save lives, so Diabetes UK wants to raise awareness of the common early symptoms of type 1 diabetes, so that children are diagnosed sooner and more safely.  

The early signs and symptoms are easy to mistake for a viral infection or other illness, which is why it’s so important to be 4T aware.  

What are the 4Ts? 

  • Toilet - Going to the toilet a lot, bed wetting by a previously dry child or heavier nappies in babies
  • Thirsty - Being really thirsty and not being able to quench the thirst
  • Tired - Feeling more tired than usual
  • Thinner - Losing weight or looking thinner than usual 

The symptoms of type 1 diabetes come on very quickly – over a few days or weeks – and need urgent treatment. Without treatment, consistently high blood sugar levels can lead to DKA.  

DKA can often be treated with insulin and fluids if it is picked up quickly. But the life threatening complication could be prevented entirely if the signs of type 1 diabetes are spotted early.

Paracetamol during Coronavirus/Covid-19 outbreak
Dear Patients

We have seen a gradual increase in requests for Paracetamol on prescription from patients that have not previously had this as part of their repeat medications and this is mainly due to the shortage available to buy over the counter.

We completely understand that these shortages create additional concerns during an already worrying time, however we cannot issue new requests for Paracetamol on prescription.

Fit Notes during Coronavirus/Covid-19 outbreak

Dear Patients 

With the situation surrounding Coronavirus/Covid-19 we realise circumstances are worrying. 

Many of you are frightened and unsure whether you should stay away from work and whether a GP fit note is an appropriate option. 

If you have symptoms of Coronavirus and need to self-isolate a GP fit note is not appropriate for your circumstances. If you require proof to send to your employer an isolation note is what you need, you can get one of these using the following link. You can also use this service on behalf of someone else: www.nhs.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/ 

Please access the link and complete the required fields. You will need to enter an email address where the isolation note will be sent to. This can either be yours to print off or your employers. 

Please do not ask your GP for a fit note. Your employer should be supporting you and trying to make reasonable adjustments for you to remain in the workplace where possible, this could include home working. 

We know the government has issued guidance that strongly advises people who are at risk to take stricter social distancing measures but it is your employer's responsibility to be especially careful and take extra steps for anyone in their workforce who may fall into this group.

Important Information regarding Prescriptions 

Due to the constantly changing environment that is Coronavirus we are no longer able to guarantee a 48 hour turn around on your prescription orders. 

We will therefore be moving to a 72 hour turnaround.  

Could I also remind you that this line is for requests only, our priority will be medication orders. 
  •  Please do not leave multiple orders on one message or
  • Request call backs.
When making requests via the telephone service please: 
  •  Leave your full name and date of birth
  • Speak clearly
  • List your medication items.
  • Tell us which Chemist you would like to items sent electronically to
Please make sure that you have enough medication to last you during this period. 



We have begun receiving requests earlier than normal, for multiples of items and for paracetamol on prescription. 

Please be aware that we will continue to issue your medication on a 28 day supply as normal and there is no need to order your medication early. 

With regard to paracetamol requests, we apologise however we will continue to ask patients to purchase this item over the counter.

This is a complex and fast moving situation which we are trying to respond to appropriately. We trust that you will work with us and support us to provide you with the best medical care during this challenging time.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak we have had to make necessary changes how our service is delivered to keep you, other patients and staff safe. 

Appointments will be telephone ONLY. 

PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY unless you have been asked to by a member of staff. 

If you have an appointment booked, a member of staff will contact you, if they have not done so already. 

To consult with a doctor for medical advice, check test results or have an administrative request: e.g. a GP Letter or a fit note, please use e Consult on our website www.seatonpark medicalgroup.co.uk. 

Alternatively, please register online using the NHS App to request appointments and repeat prescriptions.

We apologise for any inconvenience. 


From Monday 16 March we will only be offering telephone appointments. This is to keep you, other patients and staff safe.  

Please do not come down to the Practice unless you have been asked to by a member of staff. This means you will not be able to make appointments in the surgery. Please call the appointments line instead. 

Anyone with a previously booked appointment will be contacted to change their appointment to a telephone triage appointment. 

If you think you are at risk of coronavirus or have a new continuous cough OR fever PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY. 

You should stay at home (self-isolate) for 7 days from the onset of symptoms following the current advice.  


If your symptoms get worse or are serious you should use NHS 111 online (people should only call NHS111 if they cannot get online). 

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation. 

If you have returned from these specific areas  in the last 14 days, you should call NHS111 and self-isolate even if you do not have symptoms:  

  • Iran  
  • Specific lockdown areas in Northern Italy as designated by the Government of Italy  
  • Special care zones in South Korea as designated by the Government of the Republic of South Korea  
  • Hubei province (as previously noted)  
  • If you have returned from these areas  in the last 14 days  and develop symptoms, however mild, you should self-isolate at home immediately and call NHS111. You do not need to self-isolate if you have no symptoms.  
  • Italy (the whole of the country, except areas which are listed above)  
  • China (except Hubei province which is listed above)  
  • Hong Kong  
  • Macau  
  • Taiwan  
  • Japan  
  • Malaysia  
  • Republic of Korea (except areas which are listed above)  
  • Singapore  
  • Thailand  
  • Vietnam  
  • Cambodia  
  • Laos  
  • Myanmar  
Those who have returned from previously identified geographic areas within the past 14 days and develop symptoms, however mild, should self-isolate at home immediately and call NHS111.  


COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It's caused by a virus called coronavirus.

The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal. 

The risk to the general public is moderate. 

If you have arrived back to the UK from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau within 14 days, follow the specific advice for returning travellers. 

Call 111 now if you've been:

  • to Wuhan or Hubei Province in China in the last 14 days (even if you do not have symptoms)
  • to other parts of China, including Macau and Hong Kong, in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if it's mild)
  • to Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Republic of Korea or Malaysia in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if it's mild)
  • in close contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus 
Do not go to a GP surgery, community pharmacy or hospital. Call 111, stay indoors and avoid close contact with other people.
